Pat Cummins heavily unlikely for Champions Trophy 2025
A big blow to Australia’s Champions Trophy squad as Captain Pat Cummins heavily unlikely for Champions Trophy 2025 event due to an ankle injury which he is nursing currently.
As per the details revealed by Australian Coach Andrew McDonald Pat Cummins participation in doubt for Champions trophy event as he has not yet started any kind of bowling since having an ankle injury.
Fast bowler Josh Hazelwood is also struggling to regain full fitness and dark clouds are hovering on his participation also in CT event. All-rounder Mitch Marsh is already ruled out of the Australia CT squad.
Team Australia is facing a captaincy conundrum as Cummins has already led them to Australia in an ODI world Cup victory and have been regular in leading them in ODI’s. ACB has to be on the drawing board again to decide for the captain’s slot as they might look to reach out Steve Smith again who recently led them in Sri Lanka during Cummins absence or to Travis Head who is their best player right now.
With Cummins absence Australia not only loose a thinking head but also services of an all-rounder who is in great form at the moment. He has 143 scalps in 90 games in 50 over cricket for Australia. With Marsh already out and Hazelwood in doubt Australia may loose on their most experienced trio.
Cummins is not the first high profile player to be ruled out of the event. Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and South Africa Anrich Nortje were the first ones to miss out due to injuries with Marsh joined the list later on. South Africa David Miller is also nursing an injury at the moment but he is hopeful to regain fitness before the event.
India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is another high profile player whose fitness is under the scrutiny and his fitness will be checked in last ODI against England despite his name included in the India Champions Trophy squad.
