Shami Back, Bumrah in as India Champions Trophy Squad announced

India Champions Trophy Squad have been revealed after a delay. India is the 2nd last team to announced CT squad with only other team to have named their squad is host Pakistan. Fast bowler Mohammad Shami who was out of national side since ODI world cup 2023 named in the squad with Jasprit Bumrah who is nursing an injury at the moment.

Shami was in exceptional bowling form before the injury and was the highest wicket taker in ODI world cup with 23 scalps at an average of under 11. His addition will be a boost for Indian team as they are battling to regain their mojo in 50 over format. Ace pacer Bumrah’s injury is a bit of concern to India as he will not feature in series against England to be fit for Champions trophy

Former winner will be led by Rohit Sharma and his opening partner Shubhman Gill be his deputy. Yashasvi Jaiswal also named in the squad who is yet to make his debut in ODI but his stellar run in Test matches and T20I’s earned him a call in national side for the global event.

Virat Kohli, Shreyar Iyer and KL Rahul will be handling the middle order with Rahul can also keep wickets. Specialist wicket keeper batter Rishabh Pant is selected to the take guard behind the wicket. Pant has been more dominant in Test and T20I as he only featured in 33 ODI’s since making his debut way back in 2018.

Trio of all-rounders Axar Patel, Washington and Jadeja has been picked keeping in mind the spinning conditions in UAE as India will play all their matches in UAE because of Hybrid Model. Left Arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is the only specialist spinner in the side for the mega event.

Fast bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya who brings plenty of utility to India with his batting, bowling and fielding will be one of the certain starters in Champions trophy playing 11 for India.

Left Arm seamer Arshdeep Singh who is yet to make his mark in ODI’s has been picked because of his T20I heroics where he has taken 95 wickets in 60 games. SO far he is only featured in 8 ODI’s for India. But his inclusion will add variety to India fats bowling unit.

India schedule in Champions Trophy will start with match against Bangladesh on 20th February.
